Solo travel

Travelling alone in Krabi

A simple solo plan for Krabi: base yourself in Ao Nang, where it is easy to meet people, spend a night or two on Railay or Tonsai, and join a shared longtail or a climbing class.

🛡️ Thailand entry is free Avoid paid lookalike sites — get the real info here ›
Why this guide exists ▾
We've been to Thailand many times, and Krabi is one of our favourite places — but picking the right base really matters. Ao Nang is busy and easy, with everything on the doorstep. Railay has the most beautiful beaches but you can only reach it by boat. Nopparat Thara is calmer, Klong Muang and Tubkaek are quiet resort beaches 20–30 minutes away, and Krabi Town is local life with no beach at all. Choose the wrong one and you can spend half your holiday in taxis.

This guide exists to make that easy. We start with which part of Krabi suits you, then show real, well-reviewed hotels in each area — clearly marked as good value, all-rounder or luxury — how to get there from the airport, Bangkok and Phuket, and what you can do yourself straight from the beach. Every area, hotel and place, plus the boat details and park fees, is checked against current reviews and official sources.

Krabi Beach Guide

Which beach suits you — and which is best for swimming. Most of Krabi’s best beaches are a short longtail ride from Ao Nang.

Ao Nang

✈️ ~30–45 min from Krabi Airport (Ao Nang: Krabi’s main beach town)

Ao Nang is where most people stay in Krabi, and it is easy to see why. Everything is on your doorstep: a long, sandy beach with big limestone cliffs at each end, hundreds of restaurants, massage shops, bars and the longtail boat booth on the beach. From here you can hop on a boat to Railay in about 15 minutes, or join a longtail to the Hong Islands, Poda and Chicken Island without booking anything in advance. The beach road is busy, but walk a few minutes up the side streets and it gets calmer.

Best suited for
First VisitEverything CloseBoat Trips
⚠️ The Trade-off: Ao Nang is a busy resort town rather than a quiet beach. The beach road has traffic and touts, and the sand in front of the town is fine for swimming but not as pretty as Railay or the islands.
💡 Stay within a short walk of the beach, so you can walk to the longtail booth in the morning and to dinner at night without a taxi.

Railay & Tonsai

🛶 ~15 min by longtail from Ao Nang (Railay West, Railay East, Phra Nang & Tonsai)

Railay is a peninsula cut off by huge limestone cliffs, so the only way in is by boat — there are no roads and no cars. Railay West is the classic postcard beach, with soft sand and calm water. Railay East is where the boats land when the sea is rough; it has mangroves, not a swimming beach, but lots of bars and cheaper places to stay. A short walk away is Phra Nang Cave Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. Tonsai, next door, is a simple rock-climbing village.

Best suited for
CouplesBeautiful BeachesRock Climbing
⚠️ The Trade-off: Everything comes in by boat, so prices are a little higher, and you carry your bags across the sand (sometimes wading). Day-trippers fill the beaches from late morning, and in the rainy season the boats can be rough.
💡 Stay at least one night. Railay is magical in the early morning and after the last day boats leave in the evening.

Nopparat Thara & North Ao Nang

✈️ ~30–40 min from Krabi Airport (Nopparat Thara beach & the hotels on the road into Ao Nang)

Just north of Ao Nang, Nopparat Thara is a long, wide beach lined with casuarina trees, part of a national park. It is much quieter than Ao Nang, with locals picnicking at weekends and lovely sunsets. At low tide you can walk out across the sand to small islands. The hotels here are spread along the road between Nopparat Thara and Ao Nang, so you get more space and better value, and Ao Nang’s restaurants and boats are a short walk, songthaew or Grab ride away.

Best suited for
FamiliesGood ValueSunsets
⚠️ The Trade-off: Most hotels here are not right on the sand, and the area is more spread out, so you will walk or ride a little more. The beach is wide and shallow, so the water can be far out at low tide.
💡 Pick a hotel close to the Ao Nang end if you want to walk to restaurants, or close to the beach if you want peace and sunsets.

Klong Muang

✈️ ~40–50 min from Krabi Airport (Klong Muang: about 20 min by car from Ao Nang)

Klong Muang is a long, peaceful beach about 20 minutes by car north-west of Ao Nang. It is lined with big, well-run resorts set in gardens, with sunsets over the sea and the islands on the horizon. There is no town here, just a short road of small restaurants, massage shops and minimarts behind the resorts. It is perfect if you want to relax by the pool and the beach, and go into Ao Nang only when you feel like it.

Best suited for
CouplesFamiliesResort Stay
⚠️ The Trade-off: It is a car ride to Ao Nang and the longtail boats, so you will rely on taxis, Grab or hotel shuttles. The sea can be shallow and rocky in places at low tide.
💡 Check whether your resort runs a free shuttle into Ao Nang — many do, and it saves a lot of taxi fares.

Tubkaek Beach

✈️ ~45–55 min from Krabi Airport (Tubkaek: about 25 min by car from Ao Nang)

Tubkaek is Krabi’s quietest and most exclusive beach, just north of Klong Muang. Behind it are jungle-covered mountains, and in front are views of the Hong Islands. There is almost nothing here except a handful of excellent resorts, including some of the best in Thailand — so it is perfect for a honeymoon, a special trip or a few days of real rest.

Best suited for
HoneymoonLuxuryTotal Peace
⚠️ The Trade-off: There is very little outside the resorts: no town, few restaurants and no nightlife. Ao Nang is about 25 minutes away by car, so you will rely on taxis or hotel shuttles.
💡 Mix it up: spend a few nights in Ao Nang or Railay first, then finish your trip with a few slow days at Tubkaek.

Krabi Town

✈️ ~20–25 min from Krabi Airport (Krabi Town: about 30 min by car from Ao Nang)

Krabi Town is a small, friendly riverside town, about 30 minutes from Ao Nang. It is not a beach destination, but it is the real, local side of Krabi: night markets, Thai food at local prices, temples and a riverside promenade with views of the mangroves. It is handy for a night before or after a flight or ferry, and the weekend walking street is one of the best things to do in Krabi.

Best suited for
Food LoversBudgetLocal Life
⚠️ The Trade-off: There is no beach in town — Ao Nang is about 30 minutes away by songthaew or car. Most hotels here are simple and good value rather than smart.
💡 Come for one night, ideally a Friday or Saturday, to catch the walking street market.

Krabi with Kids

Family travel · Easy beaches · Boat days
🏖️ Best family bases: Ao Nang, Nopparat Thara & Klong Muang (family resorts · short airport transfer · easy boat trips)

Krabi is a great place for families. The airport is close, the flights from Bangkok are short, and the beaches, boats and big resorts are all easy to reach. Ao Nang has the most to do and big family hotels, Nopparat Thara is calmer and good value, and Klong Muang has large resorts with kids’ clubs and huge pools.

Getting there with kids: fly to Krabi Airport and take a private taxi to your hotel — about 30–45 minutes to Ao Nang. For Railay, the longtail ride is short, but you may need to wade a little and carry your bags, so pack light.

Best suited for
Family ResortsShort TransfersBoat Days
⚠️ The Trade-off: The sea can be rough from May to October, and some boat trips may be cancelled. Railay is boat-only and can be tricky with prams and lots of luggage.

Island Hopping & Day Trips

Krabi is made for island hopping. In Ao Nang you don’t need to book a tour — walk to the longtail boat booth on the beach, buy a ticket and go. For longer trips and ferries, use your hotel or 12Go.

How it works in Ao Nang:

1. Walk to the longtail boat booth in the middle of Ao Nang beach. Boards show the prices to Railay, Phra Nang, Poda, Chicken Island and the 4 Islands.

2. Buy a ticket and wait — shared longtails leave as soon as they have about 8 people. Or hire a whole boat for your group.

3. Agree the return time with the driver, and ask what time the last boat back is.

4. Bring cash for national park fees on some islands (about 400 baht for foreign adults on Phi Phi, for example). Fees are not always included and can change.

🏝️ Things to Do
🧳 Before you arrive
📝
STEP 1Digital Arrival Card (Required)
You must fill in the Digital Arrival Card before you travel to Thailand. It’s free on the official government website and takes about 10 minutes. You can only fill it in during the 3 days (72 hours) before you arrive, not earlier. As soon as you submit it, you get your confirmation and QR code within minutes — show it at immigration when you land and you’ll get a 30-day stay stamped in your passport.
🇹🇭 Official Arrival Card website
🛡️
STEP 2Travel Insurance
Sort your travel insurance before you fly, and make sure it covers medical care. Thailand’s private hospitals are excellent, but treatment can be costly without cover. Planning to ride a scooter, use a jet ski or go on boat trips? Check your policy includes them.
🚌
STEP 3Getting to Krabi
Fly to Krabi International Airport — about 1 hour 20 minutes from Bangkok, with many flights a day. From the airport, shared buses, vans, taxis and Grab take about 30–45 minutes to Ao Nang. For Railay, take a longtail from Ao Nang beach (about 15 minutes).

🎫
BRING CASHIsland Park Fees
Many of Krabi’s islands are in national parks, and you may pay a fee in cash when you land — for example, about 400 baht for foreign adults on Koh Phi Phi. Longtail tickets don’t always include it, so ask when you buy, and carry a little extra cash.

Coming from Phuket or the islands?
Ferries and speedboats run between Phuket and Ao Nang or Railay (about 1–2 hours), mostly in the dry season, and vans take about 2.5–3 hours by road. Ferries also link Ao Nang and Krabi Town with Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.

🚖 Getting to Krabi, and getting around Fly to Krabi Airport, or come by bus or boat from Bangkok, Phuket and the islands ▼

Most people fly to Krabi International Airport, about 30–45 minutes by road from Ao Nang. The flight from Bangkok takes about 1 hour 20 minutes, and there are many flights a day from both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang.

From Krabi Airport: Shared airport buses and vans run to Krabi Town and Ao Nang through the day, and stop at many hotels. Taxis wait at the counter inside arrivals, and Grab works too — agree the price first if you take a taxi. Ao Nang takes about 30–45 minutes, Krabi Town about 20–25 minutes, and Klong Muang or Tubkaek about 45–55 minutes.

From Bangkok by bus or train: Overnight buses run from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal to Krabi (about 12 hours), or take the overnight train to Surat Thani and a bus or van from there.

From Phuket: Ferries and speedboats run between Phuket’s Rassada pier (close to Phuket Old Town) and Ao Nang’s Nopparat Thara pier or Railay, mostly in the dry season (about 1–2 hours). By road, a van or taxi takes about 2.5–3 hours.

From Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta: Ferries run from Phi Phi to Ao Nang (Nopparat Thara pier) and Krabi Town, about 1.5–2 hours. From Koh Lanta, vans take about 2–3 hours, and there are boats in high season.

To Railay: There are no roads to Railay. Longtails leave from the boat booth on Ao Nang beach (about 15 minutes), from Nopparat Thara pier, or from Krabi Town (about 45 minutes). They go when they have about 8 people. In the rainy season, boats often land on Railay East instead of the beach.

Getting around: Songthaews (pick-up taxis) run between Krabi Town, Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara. Grab works well across Krabi. Klong Muang and Tubkaek are further out, so use taxis, Grab or your resort’s shuttle.

🏡 Pool villas and private stays Great for couples, families and groups — your own space ▼

Krabi has some beautiful pool villas, from luxury resorts on Tubkaek and Railay to private villas on the hills around Ao Nang.

Best areas: Tubkaek and Klong Muang (resort pool villas on the beach), Railay (villas below the cliffs) and the hills around Ao Nang (private villas with sea views).

What it’s like: More space and privacy, but hillside villas may need a car or taxi to reach the beach.

Good if: You’re on honeymoon, travelling as a family or group, or want a special treat.

When to visit Krabi: weather, festivals & busy times

Planning when to visit Krabi? It is on Thailand’s Andaman coast, so it has a clear dry season (November to April) and a rainy monsoon season (May to October). The weather decides how calm the sea is — and that matters, because so much of Krabi is about boats. Here’s a simple guide.

Nov – Feb
Dry, sunny and calm seas — the best weather. Busiest time of year.
Mar – Apr
Hot and mostly dry — still great for boats, but bring plenty of sun cream.
May – Oct
Monsoon season — heavy showers and rougher seas, but quieter and much cheaper.

Quick pick: Want the best weather and calm seas → aim for December–March. Want good weather with fewer people → try November or April. Want lower prices → May–October is great value. Want to avoid crowds → skip Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.

Krabi’s weather — dry season and monsoon

Best: November to April · Rainy season: roughly May to October

Krabi has two main seasons. From November to April it is dry and sunny, with calm, clear seas — perfect for longtails and island hopping. March and April are the hottest months. From about May to October, the south-west monsoon brings heavy showers and rougher seas, with September and October usually the wettest.

Effect on travel: In the rainy season some boat trips are cancelled, the sea is murkier and Railay boats may land on Railay East. Hotels are much cheaper, and there are still plenty of sunny spells.

Best areas in the rainy season: Ao Nang and Krabi Town, with plenty to do on land, or a resort with a good pool in Klong Muang.

💡 In the rainy season, plan boat trips for the first calm, sunny morning.

High season (November to April)

Busiest over Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year

This is when most visitors come, and for good reason: sunny days, calm seas and every boat trip running. Ao Nang is lively, Railay is full of day-trippers by late morning, and the best hotels sell out early.

Effect on travel: Prices are higher, and many hotels ask for a minimum stay over Christmas and New Year.

Best areas when it’s busy: Tubkaek and Klong Muang stay calm, and staying on Railay lets you enjoy the beaches before and after the day boats.

💡 Go to Railay and the islands early in the morning to beat the crowds.

Loy Krathong & the Berk Fah Andaman Festival

November

On the full moon of November, people float krathongs — little flower baskets with candles — on the river in Krabi Town and on the sea at Ao Nang. Krabi’s Berk Fah Andaman Festival, usually in November, opens the high season with food, music and shows.

Effect on travel: A lovely time to visit, with good weather starting and fewer crowds than December.

Best areas: Krabi Town for the riverside celebrations and Ao Nang for krathongs on the beach.

💡 Choose a krathong made of banana leaves or bread, not plastic or foam.

Quick weather & festival calendar

When What happens Effect on travellers
November – February Dry season (best weather) Sunny, calm seas and the best island hopping; busiest with visitors — book early
March – April Hot season Very hot and mostly dry, still good for boats; Songkran in mid-April
May – October Rainy season (monsoon) Heavy showers, rougher seas and some cancelled boats; quieter and cheaper
September – October Wettest months The most rain and the roughest seas; some small resorts close
Every Fri & Sat Krabi Walking Street Food, crafts and live music in Krabi Town
November Loy Krathong & Berk Fah Andaman Krathongs on the river and the sea; Krabi’s festival opens the high season
Late December Christmas & New Year Peak prices and crowds, fireworks on the beaches

Planning rule: In Krabi, the sea matters more than anything. From November to April the boats run every day and the islands are at their best. From May to October, keep your plans flexible, choose a hotel with a good pool, and book Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year early.

Weather & festival FAQs

Is it worth visiting Krabi in the rainy season?

Yes, if you are flexible. Showers are often heavy but short, with sunny spells in between, and hotels are much cheaper. The sea can be rough, so some boat trips may be cancelled, and Railay boats may land on Railay East instead of the beach.

When is the best time for island hopping?

November to April, when the sea is calm and the water is clearest. December to March is usually the best of all.

Do hotel prices go up in high season and during festivals?

Yes — from November to April, and most of all over Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year. Book as early as you can for those dates.

Quick tips before you go

Tap any tip for the short version. Practical stuff that saves you a bad first day.

💵 Tipping in Thailand It's not expected everywhere — here's where it actually matters ▼

Tipping isn't built into the culture the way it is in the US, so nobody expects it everywhere. Rounding up a taxi fare is appreciated but not required. Always agree the price before you get into a taxi, songthaew or private longtail. In restaurants, a service charge is often already added to the bill — check first. A small tip for longtail drivers, hotel porters, housekeeping, massage staff and fire-show dancers is always appreciated. Many earn very little, so it means a lot.

🛡️ Simple ways to avoid problems A few easy habits for a smooth, relaxed trip ▼

Buy boat tickets at the official booth — on Ao Nang beach, the longtail boat booth has the prices on a board, so you know what you pay.

Never leave your passport as a deposit — if you rent a scooter or kayak, offer cash or a copy instead, and take photos of it before you use it.

Agree prices first — for taxis, songthaews, private boats and seafood sold by weight, agree the price before you go.

Need help? Call the Tourist Police on 1155. They speak English and are there to help visitors. Most people have a relaxed, trouble-free trip — Krabi is very friendly.

💳 Cash, cards & ATMs ATMs are easy to find — but carry cash for boats ▼

Ao Nang and Krabi Town have plenty of ATMs and shops that take cards. Carry cash for longtails, national park fees, songthaews, street food and small shops. Railay has a few ATMs, but they can run out, so bring enough with you.

Thai ATMs charge a foreign transaction fee (usually around 220 THB) on top of whatever your own bank charges, so withdraw a larger amount less often. When the ATM asks whether to charge you in your home currency or Thai Baht (Dynamic Currency Conversion), always choose Thai Baht — the ATM’s own conversion rate is worse.

🙏 Temple dress code & etiquette Get turned away less, offend less ▼

Shoulders and knees covered, and shoes you can slip off (you'll take them off at the entrance). Never point your feet at a Buddha statue or step over someone sitting on the floor — both are considered disrespectful. Krabi has many Muslim villages too, so cover up a little away from the beach.

🗣️ A few Thai phrases that help You don't need much — this covers most situations ▼

Sawasdee krap/ka — hello (krap if you're male, ka if you're female)
Khob khun krap/ka — thank you
Mai phet — not spicy (genuinely useful — southern Thai food can be very hot)
Tao rai? — how much? (handy at markets and seafood stalls)
Aroy mak — delicious (a small compliment that goes a long way)
Hong nam yu tee nai? — where's the toilet?

💧 Water & ice safety One shape of ice tells you it's safe ▼

Don't drink tap water in Krabi — fine for brushing your teeth, but stick to bottled for drinking. Ice is a different story: the hollow cylinder-shaped ice cubes (a clean round shape with a hole through the middle) come from proper factory ice and are generally safe. A large bottle of water from a 7-Eleven costs around 15–20 THB.

🎒 Travel light for Railay You carry your own bags on and off the longtail ▼

There are no roads to Railay, so you carry your bags on and off the longtail — sometimes wading through shallow water at low tide. A backpack or small wheeled case is easiest, and many Ao Nang hotels will store big bags while you spend a night or two on Railay. If you fly with a budget airline, cabin bags are often limited to about 7 kg.

🌊 Check the boat times Longtails stop running in the early evening ▼

Longtails between Ao Nang and Railay run from early morning until about sunset, and there is a surcharge for later boats. In the rainy season (about May to October), the sea can be rough, so some boats leave from Nopparat Thara pier or land on Railay East. Check the last boat time before you go, and allow extra time on the day you fly.

☀️ Weather & what to pack Dry season November to April, rainy May to October ▼

November to April is the dry season, with sunny days and calm seas — the best time for island hopping. March and April are the hottest months. From about May to October, the monsoon brings heavy showers and rougher seas, especially from September to October, and some boat trips may be cancelled. Pack light, breathable clothes, swimwear, reef-safe sun cream, a hat, shoes with grip and mosquito repellent.

🚨 Emergency numbers worth saving Save these before you land, not after you need them ▼

1155 — Tourist Police (English-speaking, helps visitors with theft, lost items and other problems)
191 — General police
1669 — Medical emergencies / ambulance
There are hospitals in Krabi Town and a clinic in Ao Nang. Most hotels can call any of these for you if there's a language barrier.

🚕 Getting around Krabi Songthaews, Grab, taxis and longtails ▼

Songthaews (open pick-up taxis) run along the main road between Krabi Town, Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara during the day — wave one down and pay when you get off. Grab works well across Krabi, and taxis are easy to find in Ao Nang; agree the price before you set off. Longtails are the only way to Railay and the islands.

Scooters are easy to rent in Ao Nang, but the roads are busy and hilly, so only ride if you are experienced. Wear a helmet, take photos of the bike first, never leave your passport as a deposit, and check that your licence and travel insurance cover you.

🎫 National park fees Have cash ready for the islands ▼

Many of Krabi’s islands and beaches are in national parks. When you land on islands like Poda, the Hong Islands or Koh Phi Phi, you may be asked to pay a park fee in cash — for example, about 400 baht for foreign adults on Phi Phi. Longtail tickets don’t always include it, so ask when you buy your ticket, and keep your park ticket if you visit more than one island in a day. Fees can change, so carry a little extra cash.

📅 Avoid the busiest times High season is November to April ▼

Krabi is busiest from November to April, and especially over Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year, when hotels fill up and prices go up. Book early for those dates. The rainy season (May to October) is much quieter and cheaper, with fewer boats but plenty of sunny spells.

🚖 Airport to your hotel Shared bus, taxi or Grab ▼

Getting from Krabi Airport to your hotel is easy. Shared airport buses and vans run to Krabi Town and Ao Nang during the day, and taxis wait at the counter inside arrivals. For Railay, take a taxi or van to Ao Nang beach or Nopparat Thara pier, then a longtail. Many Klong Muang and Tubkaek resorts can arrange a pick-up.

🏪 The 7-Eleven survival basics They’re everywhere in Ao Nang — here's what's worth grabbing ▼

7-Elevens are all over Ao Nang and Krabi Town. Worth picking up early in your trip: mosquito repellent, after-sun, cooling or prickly heat powder, bottled water and snacks for boat days. A physical SIM card is really only worth it if your phone is too old for an eSIM — most travellers are better off sorting an eSIM before they land.

🍸 Sunset dinner bookings Book ahead for the best sunset seats ▼

Hillside restaurants above Ao Nang and beach restaurants on Railay and Klong Muang fill up at sunset in high season. Book a table a day ahead. On the beach in Ao Nang, tables are usually first come, first served — arrive early on busy nights.

🚉 Day trip or stay over? A plain steer on which is which ▼

Easy in a day from Ao Nang: Railay and Phra Nang, Poda and Chicken Island, the Hong Islands, Tiger Cave Temple, the Emerald Pool and hot springs.

Possible in a day — but better overnight: Railay (magical once the day boats leave) and Koh Phi Phi (a long day by ferry).

Better as an overnight: Koh Lanta (2–3 hours) and Phuket (about 2 hours).

If you’d rather arrange your own transport, 12Go covers buses, vans and ferries to and from Krabi.

💵 What does it actually cost? A rough everyday price guide, so you know what's normal ▼

Prices in Thai Baht (THB) — prices drift over time, so treat these as a general feel for what's normal rather than fixed numbers.

🍜 Plate of pad thai at a street stall: 60–100 THB
🛶 Shared longtail Ao Nang → Railay: about 100–150 THB one way
🎫 Phi Phi national park fee (foreign adult): about 400 THB
🚌 Songthaew Ao Nang → Krabi Town: cheap — ask the driver
💆 One-hour traditional Thai massage: around 300 THB

💷 Planning your spending Everyone's budget is different ▼

Everyone's budget is different, so we don't give daily figures. Street food, songthaews and shared longtails are cheap. Railay costs a little more, because everything arrives by boat. Beachfront resorts, private longtails and sunset dinners cost more. Prices go up from November to April, and most of all over Christmas and New Year.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Krabi for first-timers?

Ao Nang is the easiest first base. The beach, restaurants, night market and longtail boats to Railay and the islands are all within walking distance. If you want something quieter, Nopparat Thara is just next door, and Railay is perfect for a night or two.

Should I stay in Ao Nang or Railay?

Stay in Ao Nang if you want restaurants, shops and easy boat trips on your doorstep. Stay on Railay if you want the most beautiful beaches and no cars, and don’t mind arriving by longtail. Many people do both: a few nights in Ao Nang, then one or two on Railay.

How do I get from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang?

Shared airport buses and vans run to Ao Nang through the day, and taxis wait at the counter inside arrivals. Grab also works. The trip takes about 30–45 minutes.

How do I get from Ao Nang to Railay?

Take a longtail boat from the boat booth in the middle of Ao Nang beach. The ride takes about 15 minutes, and boats leave when they have about 8 people. In the rainy season, boats may leave from Nopparat Thara pier and land on Railay East.

Do I need to book tours in Krabi?

Not really. In Ao Nang you can walk to the longtail booth on the beach and buy a ticket to Railay, Poda, Chicken Island or the Hong Islands on the day. For longer trips like Koh Phi Phi, ask your hotel or a local shop, or book a ferry yourself.

How do I get from Bangkok to Krabi?

The easiest way is to fly — about 1 hour 20 minutes from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang. You can also take an overnight bus (about 12 hours) or the overnight train to Surat Thani and a bus from there.

How do I get from Phuket to Krabi?

Ferries and speedboats run between Phuket and Ao Nang or Railay, mostly in the dry season (about 1–2 hours). By road, a van or taxi takes about 2.5–3 hours.

When is the best time to visit Krabi?

November to April is the best time, with dry, sunny days and calm seas for island hopping. May to October is the rainy season, with heavy showers, rougher seas and some cancelled boat trips — but it is quieter and cheaper.

Is Krabi good for families?

Yes. The airport is close, there are big family resorts in Ao Nang and Klong Muang, and short longtail trips to the islands are fun for kids. Railay is boat-only, so pack light if you take children there.

Are there national park fees in Krabi?

Yes, on many islands. For example, foreign adults pay about 400 baht to land on Koh Phi Phi. Longtail tickets don’t always include the fee, so ask when you buy, and carry cash. Fees can change.

Why are there no hotel prices on this page?

Hotel prices in Krabi change a lot by season, between high and low season, and with special offers, so a fixed price would often be wrong. Tap Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia or Trip.com on any hotel to see today’s live price in your own currency. Christmas, New Year and the dry season (November to April) are the most expensive times.
