Travelling alone in Koh Samui

A simple solo plan for Koh Samui: land in Chaweng for the first night, pick a calmer base if you want one, go out along Chaweng Beach, or book a boat trip or cooking class to meet people.

Why this guide exists ▾
We've been to Thailand many times, and Koh Samui is a place where picking the right area really matters. It looks small on a map, but where you stay changes everything. Chaweng and Lamai are busy beach towns, Bophut is charming, Choeng Mon is calm, and the west coast is almost empty. Pick the wrong beach and you can spend a lot of your holiday travelling back and forth.

This guide exists to make that choice easy. We start with which part of the island suits you, then show real, well-reviewed hotels in each area, how to get there, and what is nearby. Every area, hotel and place, plus the visa and arrival information, is checked against current reviews and official sources.

Koh Samui Beach Guide

Which beach suits you — and which is best at different times of year. Samui’s beaches change with the season, so this is worth a quick look before you book.

Simple rule: From about February to September, almost every beach on Samui is lovely. From about October to January, the east-coast beaches (Chaweng and Lamai) can have rough seas, so the calmer choices are Choeng Mon and the north coast (Bophut and Maenam). Always check the beach flags before you swim.

Chaweng

✈️ ~10 min from Samui Airport (Chaweng Beach: about 6 km of white sand)

Chaweng is Koh Samui’s busiest and best-known beach, and the easiest base for a first visit. The long white-sand beach is lined with resorts, and the road behind it is packed with restaurants, bars, shops, spas and the Central Samui mall. You can walk to almost everything, and the airport is only about 10 minutes away. North Chaweng is calmer, Central Chaweng is the lively heart, and Chaweng Noi to the south is quieter and more upmarket.

Best suited for
First-timersNightlifeWalk to Everything
⚠️ The Trade-off: The busiest and noisiest part of the island, especially around Soi Green Mango at night. The beach can feel crowded and has jet skis. For more calm, pick North Chaweng or Chaweng Noi, or look at Choeng Mon.
💡 Chaweng works as your main base for a whole trip. If you want a quieter few days as well, add 2–3 nights in Choeng Mon, Bophut or the west coast.

Lamai

✈️ ~25 min from Samui Airport (Lamai Beach: about 4 km, second-busiest beach)

Lamai is Samui’s second-biggest beach town, and many visitors like it more than Chaweng. The beach is long and beautiful, the town has plenty of restaurants, bars and markets, but everything feels a little slower and better value. It is also close to the famous Grandfather and Grandmother rocks (Hin Ta Hin Yai) and some of the island’s best luxury resorts on the headland to the north.

Best suited for
CouplesValue for MoneyRelaxed Nightlife
⚠️ The Trade-off: About 25 minutes from the airport, and further from the ferry piers. The sea can get rough from about October to January, when swimming is not always safe. The centre has a small late-night bar area that some people find a bit seedy.
💡 Lamai is a great main base if you want beach, food and a bit of nightlife without Chaweng’s crowds. Stay near the middle of the beach for the best sand.

Bophut & Fisherman’s Village

✈️ ~10 min from Samui Airport (Fisherman’s Village walking street every Friday)

Bophut is Samui’s most charming base. Its heart is Fisherman’s Village, a small old street of wooden shophouses turned into boutiques, cafés and restaurants right by the beach. On Friday evenings it becomes the Walking Street, the island’s best night market. The beach is long and calm, the mood is relaxed, and both the airport and the Koh Phangan boats are close.

Best suited for
FamiliesCouplesFood & Markets
⚠️ The Trade-off: The beach sand is a little coarser and the water less clear than Chaweng or Choeng Mon. Nightlife is mostly bars and restaurants, not clubs. Rooms right in Fisherman’s Village cost a little more.
💡 Bophut is a great main base for most couples and families. Chaweng is only about 15 minutes away when you want a big night out.

Choeng Mon is a pretty, sheltered bay at the northeast tip of Samui, with soft sand and shallow, calm water that is lovely for children. Best suited for
HoneymoonFamiliesQuiet Luxury
⚠️ The Trade-off: There is not much nightlife, and fewer restaurants than Chaweng or Bophut, so you will need a taxi for evenings out — your hotel can arrange one. Many of the top resorts are on hillsides with steep paths and buggies.

It is also home to the Lomprayah ferry pier, so it is handy for island hopping.

Bang Rak and the Big Buddha area sit on the north-east coast, right next to Samui Airport. The famous 12-metre Big Buddha and the colourful Wat Plai Laem temple are here, along with small piers for fast boats to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. It is quieter than Chaweng, with good-value hotels, local seafood restaurants and lovely sunsets.

Best suited for
Island HoppersShort StaysValue for Money
⚠️ The Trade-off: Planes fly low overhead at times, and the beach is not as good as Chaweng or Choeng Mon (the water is shallower and less clear). Fewer restaurants and bars, so you will need short taxi rides in the evening — your hotel can arrange them.
💡 Best for your first or last 1–2 nights, or if you are catching an early ferry. For a longer stay, pick Bophut, Chaweng or Choeng Mon.

West Coast (Lipa Noi & Taling Ngam)

✈️ ~40–50 min from Samui Airport (Raja car ferry pier at Lipa Noi · Nathon town nearby)

Samui’s west coast is the island’s quiet side, and the only place to watch the sun set over the sea. Lipa Noi has a long, shallow beach with calm water, and Taling Ngam further south has some of Samui’s most famous luxury hillside resorts, looking out over the Ang Thong islands. Nearby Nathon is the island’s real Thai town, with the main ferry pier and a local night market.

Best suited for
SunsetsHoneymoonTotal Peace
⚠️ The Trade-off: It is far from everything else — about 40–50 minutes from the airport and 30–40 minutes from Chaweng. There is very little nightlife, and most people stay in their resort in the evening. The sea at Lipa Noi is very shallow at low tide.
💡 Perfect for the last few nights of a trip or a honeymoon. Pair it with a few nights in Chaweng or Bophut so you get both sides of Samui.

Koh Samui with Kids

Family travel · Calm beaches · Nature · Easy days
🏖️ Best family bases: Choeng Mon, Bophut & Maenam (calm, shallow water · short airport transfers)

Koh Samui is one of Thailand’s easiest islands for families. Choeng Mon has the calmest, shallowest beach, Bophut has an easy village feel and good family resorts, and Maenam is quiet and spacious. Chaweng works too if your kids are older and you want restaurants on the doorstep.

Getting around with kids: pre-book your airport transfer before you arrive (ask for a child seat), and ask your hotel to arrange taxis for days out. Boat trips are best in the calm months from about January to August.

Best suited for
Calm BeachesResort PoolsKids’ Clubs
⚠️ The Trade-off: From about October to December the sea on the east coast (Chaweng and Lamai) can be rough, with strong currents — always check the beach flags. Days out need a little planning, so a resort with a good pool matters.

STEP 1Digital Arrival Card (Required)
You must fill in the Digital Arrival Card before you travel to Thailand. It’s free on the official government website and takes about 10 minutes. You can only fill it in during the 3 days (72 hours) before you arrive, not earlier. As soon as you submit it, you get your confirmation and QR code within minutes — show it at immigration when you land and you’ll get a 30-day stay stamped in your passport.

What it’s like: Busy beach road, neon, lots of bars and late kitchens. Beach clubs on the sand at sunset, clubs around Soi Green Mango later.

Good if: You’re here to go out, travel solo or with friends, and don’t mind a lively street at night.

🚕 Safety tip: ask your hotel or restaurant to call a taxi for you, and agree the price before you set off.

What it’s like: Quiet bays, private pool villas, sunset dinners and spa afternoons. Easy to find a peaceful evening.

😌 Quiet stay or first visit Easy, calm and close to everything — Bophut, Choeng Mon or Maenam ▼

You want to sleep well, have a nice beach and restaurants nearby, and not feel overwhelmed. A calm base close to the airport works better than the busiest strip.

Best areas: Bophut (charming and central), Choeng Mon (calm bay, close to Chaweng) or Maenam (quietest and best value)

What it’s like: Calm beaches, good restaurants and a relaxed pace. You can still reach Chaweng in 10–25 minutes when you want a night out.

Good if: First time on Samui, you’re travelling with someone who wants quiet nights, or you care more about rest than nightlife.

What it's like: Family resorts with big pools and kids’ clubs, calm bays and short trips to elephant sanctuaries, waterfalls and boat days.

Good if: You’re travelling with children and want calm water, a pool to cool off in, and a base away from the nightlife.

🚖 Getting to Samui, and getting around Flights, ferries, airport transfers and island boats ▼

Most visitors fly straight into Samui, but the bus-and-boat route is much cheaper. Once you’re here, there is no train or proper bus network, so plan how you’ll get from the airport and between beaches.

Flights: Samui Airport (USM) is small and pretty, 10 minutes from Chaweng. Bangkok Airways runs most flights, including many a day from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (about 1 hour 5 minutes). Flights can be pricey, so book early.

Cheaper option: Fly to Surat Thani on the mainland (budget airlines from Bangkok), or take a joint bus-and-boat ticket all the way from Bangkok. Ferries (Lomprayah, Seatran and the Raja car ferry) cross from Donsak to Samui in about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, arriving at Nathon, Lipa Noi or Maenam.

Airport to hotel: There are plenty of transfer desks in the arrivals hall at fair prices, including cheaper shared transfers if you want to save money. You can also pre-book, so a driver meets you. The drive is about 10–15 minutes to Chaweng, Bophut or Choeng Mon, 25 minutes to Lamai or Maenam, and 40–50 minutes to the west coast.

Koh Phangan & Koh Tao: Fast boats leave several times a day from Bang Rak, Big Buddha, Bophut and Maenam piers. Koh Phangan is about 20–30 minutes away, Koh Tao about 1.5–2 hours.

Getting between areas: Ask your hotel to arrange taxis, and agree the price before any ride. You can also wave down the shared songthaews (open pick-up taxis) along the main road — just ask how much before you get on. Renting a motorbike? Rent from a shop your hotel recommends, take photos of the bike first, wear a helmet, and check that your licence and travel insurance cover you.

🏡 Renting a private villa Great for families and groups — your own pool and space ▼

Samui has thousands of private villas, from simple two-bedroom houses to big luxury homes with a chef. For a family or a group of friends, a villa can cost less per person than hotel rooms — and you get your own pool.

Best areas: the hills above Bophut and Choeng Mon (sea views, close to the airport and restaurants), Maenam (quiet and good value), and the hills above Lamai.

What it’s like: Many hillside villas have amazing views, but the roads up can be steep — check how far it is to the beach and shops.

Good if: You’re a family or group, you want space and privacy, or you’re staying a week or more.

When to visit Koh Samui: weather, festivals & busy periods

Planning when to visit Koh Samui? The island’s rainy season is different from the rest of Thailand, and Songkran, Loy Krathong and Christmas change crowds and hotel prices. Here’s a simple guide.

Jan – Apr
Driest and sunniest — best overall weather and calm seas. Busiest and pricier hotels.
May – Sep
Hot, with some showers — often good here while the rest of Thailand is rainy.
Oct – Dec
Rainy season — heaviest in November. Rough seas, fewer crowds, best hotel rates.

Quick pick: Want the best beach weather → aim for February–April. Summer holidays → July–August is usually good on Samui. Want lower prices and don’t mind rain → October–early December. Love festivals → time Songkran (April) or Loy Krathong (full moon in November).

Koh Samui’s rainy season is different

Heaviest rain: roughly October to December (wettest in November)

Most of Thailand gets its rain from about June to October, but Koh Samui is on the Gulf of Thailand and follows a different pattern. Its main rainy season usually starts in October and is heaviest in November, easing in December. From January to April it is mostly dry and sunny, and from May to September the weather is often good here even when other parts of Thailand are wet.

Effect on travel: In the rainy months you get heavy downpours, cloudy days and rough seas on the east coast, and some boat trips (like Ang Thong) can be cancelled. Hotel prices are at their lowest, except over Christmas and New Year.

Best areas in the rainy season: The north coast (Bophut, Maenam) is usually more sheltered than Chaweng and Lamai. Pick a resort with a good pool and spa.

💡 If you travel in November, plan flexible days and book boat trips for the first sunny morning.

Songkran on Koh Samui (Thai New Year)

Mid-April (usually 13–15 April)

Thailand’s biggest festival. The beach roads in Chaweng and Lamai turn into giant water fights, with foam parties at the beach clubs and blessing ceremonies at the temples. Fun if you want to join in; tiring if you want a quiet holiday.

Effect on travel: Hotel prices rise, roads are busy and slow, and you will get wet whenever you go out.

Best areas during Songkran: Chaweng for the full party; Choeng Mon or the west coast if you want to stay dry.

💡 Book hotels early. Carry a dry bag for your phone.

Loy Krathong on Koh Samui

Full moon in November (24 November in 2026)

People float small decorated baskets (krathongs) with candles and incense on the sea, lakes and ponds to give thanks to the water. One of the most beautiful evenings of the year — calm and romantic.

Effect on travel: Beaches and Chaweng Lake get busy in the evening. It falls in the rainy season, so bring a light rain jacket.

Best areas during Loy Krathong: Chaweng (Chaweng Lake and the beach) or any resort beach — many hotels hold their own celebrations.

💡 Choose a krathong made from banana leaves or bread, not plastic or foam.

Quick weather & festival calendar

Month Main event Effect on travellers
January – April Dry season (best weather) Sunny, calm seas, busy and pricier — book early
April Songkran Water fights, busy beach roads, higher prices
May – September Hot, some showers Often good weather here while the rest of Thailand is rainy; July–August is busy with families
October – December Rainy season (wettest in November) Heavy showers, rough seas on the east coast, lower prices
November (full moon) Loy Krathong Candle-lit evenings on beaches and lakes
Late December Christmas & New Year Peak prices and crowds, even if it rains

Planning rule: The weather matters more than festivals on Samui. For guaranteed sun, go between January and April. If you travel in the rainy season, stay flexible, choose a hotel with a good pool, and book boat trips once you see a sunny forecast.

Weather & festival FAQs

Is it worth visiting Koh Samui in November?

It can be, if you want low prices and don’t mind rain. November is usually the wettest month, with heavy showers and rough seas, but there are sunny spells too. Choose a resort with plenty to do on rainy days.

Is Koh Samui good in July and August?

Usually, yes. While much of Thailand is in its rainy season, Samui often has plenty of sunshine in July and August, with only occasional showers. It is a popular time with European families.

Do hotel prices go up during festivals?

Yes — especially over Christmas and New Year, and around Songkran. Book as early as you can for those dates.

Quick tips before you go

Tap any tip for the short version. Practical stuff that saves you a bad first day.

💵 Tipping in Thailand It's not expected everywhere — here's where it actually matters ▼

Tipping isn't built into the culture the way it is in the US, so nobody expects it everywhere. Rounding up a taxi fare is appreciated but not required. Always agree the price before you get on a motorbike taxi or into a tuk-tuk. In restaurants, a service charge is often already added to the bill — check first. A small tip for hotel porters, housekeeping, massage and spa staff is always appreciated. Many earn very little, so it means a lot.

🛡️ Simple ways to avoid problems A few easy habits for a smooth, relaxed trip ▼

Book with people you trust — your hotel, or a well-reviewed booking site, is the easiest way to arrange tours, boats and transfers.

Take photos before you rent — if you rent anything (a motorbike, a jet ski, a kayak), take a few photos of it before you use it.

Agree prices first — for taxis and anything else without a fixed price, agree the price before you set off.

Need help? Call the Tourist Police on 1155. They speak English and are there to help visitors. Most people have a relaxed, trouble-free trip — Samui is a friendly island.

💳 Cash, cards & ATMs What actually works day to day ▼

Cards work fine in malls, hotels and most restaurants. Street food stalls, markets and small shops are cash-only, so keep some on you. Thai ATMs charge a foreign transaction fee (usually around 220 THB) on top of whatever your own bank charges — a fee-free travel card (like Wise or Revolut) saves a meaningful amount if you're withdrawing often. Krungsri ATMs are generally reckoned to be one of the better options for foreign cards.

One thing that actually matters more than which bank: when the ATM asks if you want to be charged in your home currency or Thai Baht (this is called Dynamic Currency Conversion, or DCC), always choose Thai Baht — decline the conversion. Accepting means the ATM applies its own, worse exchange rate with a hidden markup. Choosing Baht means your own card network (Visa/Mastercard) applies the real market exchange rate instead, which is almost always meaningfully better.

Since that ~220 THB fee is a flat charge per withdrawal rather than a percentage, withdrawing a larger amount in one go and doing it less often works out far cheaper than several small withdrawals — the fee barely dents a big withdrawal, but adds up fast if you're taking out cash every day or two.

Chase (UK) is worth knowing about too — it's charged no withdrawal fee on its own side, up to a monthly limit, on top of applying a fair exchange rate. That limit has changed more than once, so check the current figure in the Chase app before you travel rather than relying on an old number. One thing that doesn't change: even with Chase, the Thai ATM itself will still apply its own ~220 THB fee — Chase not charging you is separate from the local machine not charging you.

🙏 Temple dress code & etiquette Get turned away less, offend less ▼

Shoulders and knees covered, closed-toe or easily removable shoes (you'll take them off at the entrance). Some temples lend sarongs at the door if you turn up underdressed, but don't rely on it. Never point your feet at a Buddha statue or step over someone sitting on the floor — both are considered disrespectful.

🗣️ A few Thai phrases that help You don't need much — this covers most situations ▼

Sawasdee krap/ka — hello (krap if you're male, ka if you're female)
Khob khun krap/ka — thank you
Mai phet — not spicy (genuinely useful — Thai "not spicy" can still have a kick)
Tao rai? — how much? (handy at markets)
Aroy mak — delicious (a small compliment that goes a long way with street food vendors)
Hong nam yu tee nai? — where's the toilet?

💧 Water & ice safety One shape of ice tells you it's safe ▼

Don't drink tap water on Samui — fine for brushing your teeth, but stick to bottled for drinking. Ice is a different story: the hollow cylinder-shaped ice cubes (a clean round shape with a hole through the middle) used at most restaurants and street stalls come from proper factory ice, and are generally safe. Bottled water itself is cheap everywhere — a large bottle from a 7-Eleven typically costs somewhere around 15–20 THB.

🎒 The hand-luggage weight trick Budget airlines can be strict about cabin bag weight ▼

Budget airlines flying within Thailand (like AirAsia) often enforce a strict cabin bag weight limit, commonly around 7kg, and will weigh it at the gate. The simple fix: wear your heaviest shoes and jacket onto the plane instead of packing them, and keep heavy electronics in your pockets at check-in rather than your bag. A digital luggage scale is cheap and means no surprises at the gate.

🎧 Learn Thai before you land Listen on the flight, arrive already knowing the basics ▼

If you'd rather learn a bit of pronunciation before you land than fumble through a phrasebook, a Thai language audiobook or beginner course downloaded before your flight means you can practise offline the whole way there.

☀️ Weather & what to pack It's hot year-round — season changes rain, not heat ▼

Koh Samui is hot all year — the real question is rain, not temperature. January to April is the driest, sunniest time. May to September is hot with some showers, and often better than the rest of Thailand. October to December is the rainy season, heaviest in November, with heavy downpours and rough seas on the east coast. Pack light, breathable clothes, swimwear, reef-safe sun cream and a light rain jacket if you are visiting from October to December.

🚨 Emergency numbers worth saving Save these before you land, not after you need them ▼

1155 — Tourist Police (English-speaking, helps visitors with theft, lost items and other problems)
191 — General police
1669 — Medical emergencies / ambulance
Most hotels can also call any of these for you if there's a language barrier.

🚕 Getting around Koh Samui Keep it simple — let your hotel help ▼

The easiest way to get around Koh Samui is to ask your hotel to arrange a taxi for you. At the airport, there are plenty of transfer desks in the arrivals hall at fair prices, including cheaper shared transfers if you want to save money. You can also pre-book if you like. For any ride, agree the price before you set off. You can also wave down the shared songthaews (open pick-up taxis) along the main road — just ask how much before you get on.

If you want to rent a motorbike, rent from a shop your hotel recommends, take photos of the bike before you ride off, always wear a helmet, and check that your driving licence and travel insurance cover you.

💱 Best places to exchange cash Skip the airport counters — you're losing money there ▼

Exchanging physical cash (GBP, USD, EUR) at a proper exchange booth almost always beats withdrawing from an ATM once you factor in foreign transaction fees — and it beats airport or hotel exchange counters by a wide margin too, since those tend to offer the worst rates. On Samui you will find plenty of exchange booths along the main roads in Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut — compare the boards, as rates vary a little.

If you need cash the moment you land at Samui Airport, change only a small amount there for your transfer and first meal, then change the rest in town where rates are usually better.

🐘 Choosing an ethical elephant sanctuary One simple rule avoids the venues worth avoiding ▼

Almost every visitor wants to see elephants, but not every venue treats them well. The simple rule: never book anywhere offering elephant riding or circus-style shows — both involve training methods that cause real harm. Stick to certified rescue and observation-only sanctuaries, where elephants roam and are watched (fed, bathed, walked alongside) rather than ridden or performing. Reputable options include Elephant Nature Park and Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, both well-regarded, genuine rescue operations.

🧳 Travel light for island hopping You carry your own bags on the ferries ▼

Samui Airport is small and quick to get through, and there are transfer desks in arrivals, so getting to your hotel is easy. If you are island hopping afterwards, pack light — you carry your own bags on and off the fast boats, often over a gangway or onto a pier.

🚖 Airport to your hotel Transfer desks in arrivals, or pre-book ▼

Getting from Samui Airport to your hotel is easy. There are plenty of transfer desks in the arrivals hall at fair prices, including cheaper shared transfers if you want to save money. Or, if you prefer, pre-book a private transfer so a driver is waiting for you with your name as you walk out.

🏪 The 7-Eleven survival basics There's one on almost every corner — here's what's worth grabbing ▼

7-Elevens are everywhere on Samui and genuinely useful, not just for snacks. Worth picking up early in your trip: mosquito repellent (useful all year, more so in the rainy season), after-sun and a cooling/prickly heat powder, which locals swear by in the humidity. Also handy for bottled water and cold drinks for the beach. A physical SIM card here is really only worth it if your phone is too old to support an eSIM — most travellers are better off sorting an eSIM before they land. It's cheap and easy to do.

🍸 Sunset dinner & beach club bookings Book ahead for the best sunset seats ▼

Samui’s best sunset restaurants and beach clubs (like Nikki Beach, ARKbar and the clifftop hotel restaurants) can be fully booked at sunset in high season, and some beach clubs have a minimum spend for daybeds. Klook sells some prepaid packages, and booking a table ahead is often the only way to get a good sunset seat.

🚉 Day trip or stay over? A plain steer on which is which ▼

Genuinely doable in a day: Ang Thong Marine Park, Pig Island (Koh Madsum) and Koh Tan — organised boat trips out and back.

Easy either way: Koh Phangan — only 20–30 minutes by fast boat, so a day trip is simple, but it is also lovely for a few nights.

Better as an overnight: Koh Tao — 1.5–2 hours each way, so stay a night or two unless you are on a snorkelling tour.

For transport, an organised tour (Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook) usually includes hotel pickup and the boat. If you’d rather arrange your own, 12Go covers the ferries to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

💵 What does it actually cost? A rough everyday price guide, so you know what's normal ▼

Prices in Thai Baht (THB) — street prices drift over time, so treat these as a general feel for what's normal rather than fixed numbers.

🍜 Plate of pad thai at a street stall: 50–80 THB
🍺 Large Chang beer at a local bar: 100–140 THB
🚕 Taxi and songthaew rides: prices depend on distance — just ask how much before you set off
💆 One-hour traditional Thai massage: 250–350 THB

💷 Planning your spending Everyone's budget is different ▼

Samui costs a bit more than the mainland, because most things arrive by boat. Everyone's budget is different, so we don't give daily figures. Street food, markets, local buses and songthaews are cheap. Resorts, private boat trips, fine dining and spas cost more. Prices go up over Christmas, New Year and in high season.

💡 Tip: tap the booking buttons on any hotel or tour to see today's real price.

🧭 Which company do I use for what? A quick reference so you're not guessing ▼

🏨 Hotels: Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia or Trip.com — compare across all four, since prices genuinely vary by site.

🎫 Tours & tickets: Viator, GetYourGuide or Klook for guided tours (Ang Thong boat trips, island tours, cooking classes, snorkelling) — all three give instant mobile tickets and free cancellation on most bookings, and Klook in particular tends to have strong Southeast Asia-specific coverage worth comparing.

💆 Spa, massage & dining: Klook also covers prepaid spa and massage packages, and some restaurant set-menu deals — worth a look if you'd rather book ahead than turn up and hope for availability.

🚆 Trains, buses & ferries: 12Go — for flights-and-ferry combos from Bangkok, and ferries to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

📱 eSIM & local SIM top-ups: Trip.com

🎒 Gear: Amazon — for the practical stuff (dry bags, rain jackets) mentioned elsewhere in these tips.
